Fanatics Sportsbook Gives $1 Million to Customers After Service Interruption
Fanatics Sportsbook is giving away $1 million to sports bettors following a service outage that caused its online sports betting platform to be unavailable for several hours.
Fanatics, the sports merchandise retailer that has made significant investments in the intensely competitive sports betting market led by FanDuel and DraftKings, is a privately owned firm overseen by billionaire Michael Rubin. On Wednesday afternoon, Fanatics Sportsbook encountered service problems that mainly affected New York, though customer complaints also emerged from other states like Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
A post on social media by Fanatics Sportsbook indicated, “Service for New York customers is temporarily interrupted due to a cut fiber optic cable.” The online sportsbook announced that cash outs and deposits/withdrawals were not possible, but all bets made prior to the problem would “be settled normally.”
In a later announcement, Fanatics stated that a “third party” had severed the fiber optic cable, which serves as the foundation of the sportsbook's functioning in New York.
Fanatics Sportsbook offered minimal information on how the fiber optic cable was severed. Details about whether the cord was intentionally severed in what might be a criminal act or if the cut resulted from an accident were not disclosed.
FanCash Rewards
To maintain its essential market share in New York, the richest sports betting state in the country, Fanatics Sportsbook announced it will be compensating affected bettors.
"Things aren’t always in our control, but we want to make it right. We’ll be giving out $1 million in FanCash across all impacted users and a 50% Profit Boost Token for customers in New York. Thanks for riding with us,” the message read.
FanCash is the rewards program of Fanatics. Like a credit card that offers cash back, Fanatics rewards its dedicated customers and bettors with FanCash on every qualifying purchase and bet.
FanCash is valid for buying Fanatics merchandise and clothing, but it cannot be used towards shipping charges or taxes. FanCash can likewise be exchanged for Bonus Bets at the Fanatics Sportsbook & Casino.
The FanCash return on bets is based on the odds. For wagers made on odds of -110 or better, the bettor gets only .01% to 1% of the stake returned in FanCash. For odds of +6000 or greater, 10% of the wager is refunded through FanCash.

In New York, Fanatics Sportsbook is among nine authorized online sports wagering platforms.
In the last 12 months ending March 2025, Fanatics Sportsbook was positioned fifth in market share based on handle. Between April 2024 and March, Fanatics Sportsbook accepted $1.6 billion in mobile wagers and retained $120.2 million from those bets.
FanDuel leads in New York with a handle of $9.2 billion and a hold of $969.8 million. DraftKings ranks second with total wagers amounting to $8.6 billion and earnings of $727.9 million.
Caesars Sportsbook ranks third with a handle of $1.7 billion and earnings of $131.4 million, while BetMGM is fourth with a handle of $1.7 billion and revenue of $121.4 million.
